Liuyang's journey

Published: 6 February 2024

At the end of 2023 we said goodbye to Liuyang Feng. Liuyang started his journey as a PhD student in 2015 working on computational modelling of the mitral valve. He then became a Research Associate with SofTMech from 2019 until 2023 during which time he developed one of the first whole heart FSI models with all valves in the field. We will all miss him and wish him good luck in his new post as a Scientific Software Development Engineer.

He then became a Research Associate with SofTMech from 2019 until 2023 during which time he developed one of the first whole heart FSI model with all valves in the field.

These are some of Liuyang's highlights from his time at the University of Glasgow

  • Best PhD Presentation at The Third Soft Tissue Modelling Workshop (2017)
  • Top Three Best Poster Prize at The Joint EPSRC Multisim-SofTMech Workshop     (2018)
  • Presented work at STEM for BRITAIN 2020
  • Participated in public engagement events  such as European Researcher’s        Night and the ARCadia Festival (pictured) of Ideas to showcase SofTMech research
  • In 2023 a runners' up prize for the Best Abstract at the Scottish Right Heart Symposium for his talk on 'Whole hearted modelling with valves in a fluid-structure interaction framework'.

Last but not least during his time at the University of Glasgow he married Mihaela Paun who also works with SofTMech.

We will all miss him and wish him good luck in his new post as a Scientific Software Development Engineer.
